(stranger)

Verse 1:
Stranger in a foreign place,
They want you dead ‘cause you’re not their race.
Stranger- They won’t be kind,
Though your’n elder stricken blind.
Stranger in a foreign land,
They want you out but you’ll make a stand.

Chorus:
Stranger- Stranger.
It doesn’t matter that you’ve been here longer.
It doesn’t matter ‘cause they are stronger.
It doesn’t matter that you are human.
It doesn’t matter cause you aren’t like them.
Stranger- Stranger.
It doesn’t matter, because you don’t matter.
It doesn’t matter, because you don’t matter.
It doesn’t matter, because you don’t matter to them.

Verse 2:
Stranger in a foreign country,
Like an animal they will hunt thee.
Stranger in a foreign land,
For your good deeds they’ll strike your hand.
Stranger in a foreign town,
They will not cease ‘till you’re six feet down.

Chorus x2

Outro:
Whose Stranger?

(untitled 1)

Dear God of the broken hearted:
Come quickly. Fix what we started.

(big momma in the sky)

Big momma in the sky
I don’t get you.
I won’t try to pretend I do.
Why do you let my brothers
and sisters fall so?
Why don’t you hold them close
despite their yelling and screaming.
Us, me and my siblings, that know you
we know it is best when we just sit
in silence as you rock us
back and forth and back and forth.
I don’t get you and I don’t need to.
I just wish the lost ones would come back.

(to peacekeeper: a robot that wonders if it too has a soul)

Someday, maybe soon, maybe not,
You will reach the end of your quest.

Until then, my metallic friend,
You can visit heaven in an ornithopter.

(how to spell knife)

Kinetic
Nine point eight meters
per second squared, I, Blade,
rush to meet juggler.

Notch

I am a wid’ler.
I will destroy the forest
Soon, notch by notch by…

Incision

My poem enters
between the ribs of paper.
Ink, paper’s blood, flows.

Friction

Along serrated
edges, unity divides
‘til one becomes two.

Edge

Thinner than thin,
the edge is unknowable,
like secrets of God.

(ghost)

The ghost of a
living person
comes to me ev

ery night and
I am so tired.
I cannot sleep.

we argue for
hours. Neither
of us will ev

her body goes
on with her life.

(freshman dorm romance)

Miss January of the Swimsuit Calendar, circa 2002,
I am but a poor man,
with little wants
and little to give.
True, I am an
astronaut, but
I’ve never been to
space. But I have danced
Oh I have danced
among the stars
and the planets.
I have glowed with the
light from the sun.
I have stared down
at the world below
 in the middle of the
night and seen lights,
lights so simple
and so very many
that it would take your
breath away forever.
I have seen all
those things but
I have no one to share
all my joys with.
I have seen you
posed so gracefully
and still for so long.
I know that we are
kindred souls.
So, when you tire of
being ogled by freshman
boys and you are ready
for a real man.
Someone who cares
about you, soul and body,
I am right here.
Right where I’ve always been.
Come stand by my side
and we will make
the universe sing
like never before,
or I’m not the
Glow-in-the-dark Astronaut above Billy’s bed.

(project)

My name is James DeMaio. I am a human male. Currently, I am 22 years old. I go to Eastern University. This is where I am posting my poetry, song lyrics, and anything else creative I write. There's not much here yet. But there will be soon if all goes according to plan.

Anyway, I consider myself a musician and a writer, though a novice at both. I have been writing poems since before I can remember. My mother tells me I started at least as early as first grade. I have been dabbling on music instruments for about as long, though less consistently. I have dabbled in piano forte, trumpet, and recorder. I currently play bass guitar, going on six years, and guitar, going on six months.

Since this site allows videos, I will add music videos as I complete them. While I enjoy creating music videos to songs I enjoy, this space will be reserved for works that are at the very least co-written by me.

I hope you enjoy what I post as much as I enjoy posting them.
